dsc_0309.jpgMEDIEVAL AND RENAISSANCE LAZIO : THE MAGIC OF MEDIEVAL QUARTERS, THE PALACE, THE VlLLA AND THE LANDSCAPE GARDEN

Apart from being the heartland of the mysterious Etruscan people, our region also boasts a rich history during medieval and Renaissance period.

1st Itinerary (Northern Lazio, Viterbo-Bagnaia; one day)

Morning

The first city to await us is Viterbo, where you can visit the still intact medieval quarter of San Pellegrino and the other medieval monuments, walking through its winding and narrow streets and laneways. Amongst the beautiful buildings, the Popes Palace is a definite must.

Afternoon

In the afternoon Villa Lante at Bagnaia, a beautiful example of Renaissance Italian Garden, definitely deserves a visit. Bagnaia is only 4 Km from Viterbo.villa-lante.jpg

2nd Itinerary (Northern Lazio, Vitorchiano-Bomarzo; one day)

Morning

You can start visiting Vitorchiano, a picturesque medieval village. Vitorchiano’s medieval quarter is small but authentic with quaint residences, towers and tiny streets and squares. From Vitorchiano you can proceed to Bomarzo where you can take a brief walk through the medieval quarter before stopping for lunch.

Afternoon

After lunch you can visit the Garden of Monsters, a bizarre creation in dramatic contrast with the architecture of that period, designed and produced by Vicino Orsini toward the end of XVIth century. The garden consists of horrific and monstrous figures sculptured from stone.
