Tarquinia and Tuscania
2nd Itinerary (Northern Lazio – a deeper tour into the secretive world of the Etruscan- Tarquinia-Tuscania; one day)
Morning
Our discovery of the Etruscan world will start at Tarquinia where we will visit the necropolis of Monterozzi with its numerous frescoed tombs and the Etruscan Museum which is housed inside Palazzo Vitelleschi. The museum describes the history of the Etruscan civilization with exhibits in chronological order.
Afternoon
After lunch we will wander through the medieval part of Tarquinia which is also lovely. From Tarquinia we will travel to Tuscania, an extraordinary town, full of wonders. Our visit of the town will start at the two important Romanesque churches of San Pietro and Santa Maria Maggiore. Their isolated location gives them an evocative atmosphere. Then we will lose our way in the stillness and emptiness of the old town centre and we will get some sense as to why this strange little town exerts such a hold over people.
