Snorkeling

Snorkeling in tuscany

The southern shore of lake Bolsena is an enchanting and untouched environment that includes a birds sanctuary. It is also possible to visit the remains of a human settlement belonging to the pre Etruscan era, which dates back to approximately 800 BC. This archeological site is now under 3 metres of water and reachable only by boat and with a professional guide.

It was once a fisherman’s village with huts built on stilts. An earthquake raised the water of the lake, which completely submerged the village.

With our speed boat, we bring our guests to visit the site with masks and flippers. It is truly a magical experience and one that we recommend to our guests.

The beautiful, crystal clear waters allow participants to journey to the very depth of the lake.  At the bottom of the lake, we can view the visible pots and artifacts which belonged to the Ancient Poles, the village inhabitants of 800BC.

Today, three thousand years later, we can still find the remains of the same fisherman’s huts upon the shore of the lake. These huts are neatly lined along the shore only 50 metres from where the ancient village once stood. Still today, the fishermen of the local villages continue to work as their ancestors did centuries before.

Finally, just several metres away, lies a submerged Roman road. This is definitely a trip that is not to be missed!
